Religious studies

A few days (or weeks) ago, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has proposed to Ministry of Education to allow students to study their respective religion. It means that current secular moral will be abolished and will be replaced with religious studies. Currently only Muslim student learn about their religion at school.

If this proposal approved by MoE, we will see in the near future the student learn about Buddhist, Hindu, and Christian at the public school. Do you like this situation happening at our school?

For me, yes i do like it to happen. And also like if the interfaith studies is learn by every student. It means for every religion, every student will learn about it. But this will become like a double-sword case. Positively, every student will learn and respect other religions. Negatively, most people will afraid if the student will convert to other religion.

IMHO, i think for the primary school, each student will learn only about their respective religion. This is to make sure each student understand about their religion sehingga ke akar umbi. This also to ensure parents that their children will 'susah utk' convert to another religion. Then the interfaith studies will start at form 3 (pada masa ni, every student has reach mature age where they can think by themselves about bad and good things-- in Islam this is called as 'akil baligh')..During the learning period, teachers will be monitored by independent council (this council is make up from representative of each religion) 'supaya' the teachers will not take advantage of converting the students to other religion. Selain itu, peranan council ni juga utk memastikan guru tersebut tidak bias kepada sesuatu agama.

I think this will work if the community can help MoE and the government. but i'm not too sure. if community cannot change this will not happen. the community has to change first before government can implement the changes at school..it means no more prejudice, no more 'blame the government', no more 'that is not my responsibility', no more 'xxxx is a best religion in the world', no more this and no more that..

any comments?
